lg g5 header

LG has developed an admirable track record of supporting the latest version of Android on their current generation hardware. Last year LG was amongst the first to push out an Android 6.0 updated to their devices, perhaps in part due to their involvement with building the Nexus 5X? According to Optus, they are currently testing the LG G5 Android 7.0 updates for the LG G5, and it’s set for release by mid-November.

Considering the official release of Android 7.0 was only a few months ago, for LG to already have one model with Android 7.0, the LG V20, and one model with the update in testing is fairly good. However, the story doesn’t seem so rosy if you shelled out for last year’s high-end device; the LG G4 was not listed as being in testing and we’ve heard no rumours about any release timeframe.

That’s not to say the Android 7.0 update won’t roll out to more LG devices, just that it appears they won’t be in line for first class treatment. This is, unfortunately, par for the course with all but Google’s high-end devices, sure you may get 2 years of OS updates on many OEM ‘flagships’ however, they get increasingly delayed as time goes on.

Be that as it may, if you’re an LG G5 owner, especially on Optus, you may soon be tasting the sweet deliciousness of a Nougat tasty treat.

Are you using a usd with your phone at the moment? Had any issues?

David Anderton

Awesome, would this mean that international variants should get it earlier? I have the dual SIM version.

Boooo to no LG G4!
Although, since being repaired from bootloop issue, I can’t really complain, it’s still an awesome phone.

Mine died after that repair, wifi just gave up the ghost a few weeks later, not terribly impressed by the longevity.
