It’s finally happening! The Samsung Galaxy S II (GT-I9100) is getting a taste of Jelly Bean, Android 4.1.2.
Samsung is starting to push out the Jelly Bean update to its best selling Android device of 2011. With so many Galaxy S II users still loving their device, it’s no wonder Samsung are continuing to push out updates like this.
Jelly Bean is the biggest update yet for the Galaxy S II, as the ICS update really didn’t add any UI changes from its Gingerbread start. However, Jelly Bean will bring the Nature UX Interface with it, which is the same that’s being used on the Galaxy S III Jelly Bean update. This will bring some fantastic changes to the device, such as:-
- Buttery Smooth Performance & Great Stability (Thanks to Project Butter)
- Flil User Interface Revamp (Same UI as of the Galaxy S III and Galaxy Note II)
- TouchWiz Nature UX
- Samsung’s S Cloud services
- Improved Camera features
- New Lockscreen With Many Customization Options
- New Features like Direct Call, Smart Stay and Pop-up Play
- New Widgets (From Galaxy S III)
- 2 Home screen modes
- New Notification bar With More Notification Toggles
- Google Now

Still Waiting…
oo yeah great way to get everyone excited…..it should say non-carrier release…..Optus have since updated their site with this:
4.1.2 Maintenance release
Further issues have delayed testing. At this stage this version looks unlikely to be released until mid to late February.
Forget the OTA updates, Cyanogenmod 10.1 is the way to go. Version 4.2 is just amazing!
I was using it on my S2 and found it full of bugs. Constantly needing to reboot, chewing through the battery and many apps just didn’t run. The crashes on the clock alone were a pain. CM10.1 isn’t ready yet but not far off.
What ever happened to the Jellybean update for the Galaxy Note N7000? When’s that coming out?
Stop asking these sorts of questions when this article isn’t even about the note
Hi Lachlan. It would be great if we were able to give you a definitive answer for all OS updates. Unfortunately we can only report on updates as we receive or find out the information.
Will the Telstra version get this?
I’m sure, over time. Carriers have their own timelines. We can only hope that it will be fairly expedient.
this doesn’t include carrier GS2s i guess?
Australia Optus Galaxy S II (I9100)
4.1.2 Maintenance release Optus testing resumed.
An issue was discovered during testing. We’re testing a revised version and hope to approve it shortly.
Best news I’ve heard all day #runstoSamMobile
PROTIP: Disable SwiftKey3 and switch back to Samsung Keyboard before upgrading. I keep getting FC’s with SwiftKey3.
PROTIP:2 Run to XDA forums and get 4.2.1 which has been out for months ,carrier free 😉
>implying protip is used on this website.
>implying implications are implied on this website
>implying that people read this website.
oh wait.
Turns out clearing the cache of SwiftKey fixed this issue!
