Google-Glass-update-640x345

According to Engadget and Phandroid, Google Glass units will soon receive a firmware update that is said to fix a number of bugs and optimisations, as well as two fairly significant changes. Firstly, Glass will only allow applications to upload data in the background when the headset is connected to both a power source and a WiFi network. Apparently there is no explanation for the change, but chances are it has to do with battery life. Google have also updated the battery indicator to be more accurate.

A neat trick that Google have added with the update is that Glass will now display Google+ notifications for hangouts, mentions, comments and shares; as well as now allowing you +1 and comment on posts on the go. Phandroid have acquired the following changelog:

  • Change to sync policy: require power + WiFi for background uploads
  • Crash reporting
  • Incoming G+ notifications (direct shares, comments, +mentions), including ability to comment and +1
  • Incoming Hangout notifications
  • Transcription of queries & messages is now wicked-fast
  • Long-press to search from anywhere in the UI (no longer just from off)
  • International number dialing + SMS
  • Hop animation on disallowed swipes in the UI
  • New On-Head Detection calibration flow
  • Show device Serial Number on Device Info card
  • More reliable estimation of battery charge remaining
  • New recipient-list mosaic

I’m sure this would be interesting if any one of us actually had glass.
