After a surprise drop of the Android N developer preview only a couple of days ago there has been a flurry of activity. Many users hurried to grab the factory images and flash their devices with the first build of the preview. Tech sites across the globe have been madly combing through the documentation and software to check whats new, whats cool and what needs bit of improvement – you can see our progress here. To get on the Android N preview, all you need to do is go to g.go/androidbeta and enrol your device or if you wish you can use the “old” method to flash the OS manually and the initial indication from the Google Developers site was that if you did the latter; you’d have to do it again when the updates come out but this is not the case.
An update had been put onto the developer preview site stating that you do not in fact need to flash as the updates come for Android N, but can simply enrol the device into the preview (As you would have otherwise done) to receive the OTA updates.
If you decide you want to get OTA updates after manually flashing a device, all you need to do is enroll the device in the Android Beta Program. You can enroll the device at any time to receive the next Preview update over the air.
As one of the impatient ones who grabbed the factory image ASAP and flashed I am pleased to see that OTAs are now available for the device I manually updated.
