Samsung’s long awaited Android Pie update is still in beta for their devices, and while we’ve seen hints of the new One UI and other options in beta a new feature has emerged which has been requested for some time: Adoptable Storage Support.
Adoptable Storage is the option to use the microSD card as a native form of storage in which it can be used to install apps, store files and more instead of just being a repository for storing music or movies. Google first brought this option to Android in Marshmallow, but three versions of Android later and Samsung is testing it in their Pie update.
Spotted by SamMobile via XDA Developers, the feature isn’t quite ready as yet but it’s showing up in the settings of the Samsung Android Pie CRK3 release on the Galaxy Note 9.
The option to add a further 512GB of storage to the Galaxy Note 9 – which comes with either 128GB or 512GB of on-board storage – or even other models like the Galaxy S8/S8+ or Note 8 which are also in line to receive the Android Pie update would be a big boost for users. It would be of more use to users of lower end devices with less on-board storage though, but that could be another feature moving forward.
This is still a beta feature though, so whether it makes it to final release is something we’ll be watching with keen interest.
