Google Maps

One of Google maps undeniably awesome features is live traffic. I obsessively add locations to my calendar appointments just so I will receive a notification if travel times to that location gets too long. However, it seems not everyone who shares appointments with me shares my obsession and I often have to manually check travel times.

Perhaps with Google Maps latest feature this may have become just a little bit easier. Traffic Nearby is a new feature that scans your local area and lets you know if there are any major delays. Unfortunately, being a weekend there isn’t any traffic congestion to demonstrate the feature at work.

Traffic Nearby only seems to be accessible from a new Google Maps home screen shortcut at present. There is a toggle for “Get traffic conditions based on your current location”, this will push notifications to your device whenever there is a traffic issue in your area, this can also be toggled in the notification settings of the Google Maps app.

We will keep experimenting with the new feature and see if anything new happens when there are actually traffic delays to worry about.

Last night I was driving and google mapa announced 5 minute congestion. Not sure if that’s what you’re referring to?
