Since the arrival of YouTube Kids last year, there have been fairly limited ways to actually access the service; there’s not even an Android TV app for it. This is all starting to change today, with Google announcing the expansion of YouTube Kids app onto select Smart TVs.
Which TVs? At present all 2015 – current LG webOs based TVs via their internal app store and all 2013 – current Samsung Smart TV’s and Blu-ray players both via their internal app stores. For Sony TV’s without Android TV all 2016-current models will get YouTube Kids via a firmware update.
Why not the Android-powered Sony TVs I hear you say? In the post, Google says that an Android TV version will be coming soon, thus allowing all Sony Android TV’s to get the app as well as, in all likelihood, all Android TV set top boxes like the NVIDIA Shield. As an official YouTube Kids market, Australia will even get the new app at launch, for a change.
If you haven’t tried YouTube Kids why not give it a go?
