A few weeks back we reported that Twitter had quietly added support for Two-Factor Authentication (2FA) apps like Google Authenticator or Authy. It looks as if that may not have been the only change to Twitters 2FA systems.
Thanks to a little digging in their app today we came across an inbuilt 2FA code generator built right into the Twitter app itself. If you go into the menu, select Settings, tap Account, then tap Security, tap Login code generator, and you should be there.
For those of you from a mixed family, you can also find the code generator on iOS.
For heavy users of 2FA authentication apps like Authy I doubt this feature will be overly handy, however, it’s never a bad thing to have the choice, and we’re still incredibly happy that Twitter choose to add support for 2FA generators. It would be great if you could turn off SMS as the default 2FA mechanism Twiter, but small steps I guess.
Now if the rest of the internet, especially the Australian Banking sector, could just adopt the standard that would be great, thanks….
It’s good to have SMS as a fallback option if someone loses access to their authenticator app for whatever reason but it shouldn’t be used as the default option.
I completely agree, I love it as an option but just wish it didn;t send the SMS by default every time
