There’s a lot of streaming media available in the current market and let’s be honest, there’s also a lot of crap on those services. With the kids home on school holidays, I was looking for ways to keep them entertained while also preserving the sanity of my wife and I. In my search to avoid more YouTube I discovered Curiosity Stream.

I won’t go into the mechanics of using the service — it’s the same as everything else. What is worth a closer look is the value that the service offers and the content available because both are good offerings.

While we deal with the COVID-19 pandemic, the team at Curiosity Stream are offering 40% off the normal subscription rate. This means you’ll be charged a minuscule US$11.99 for a year of access to all content.

The content range is extensive with a number of categories including science, history, technology, nature, society, lifestyle and kids. Each category has sub-categories that break down the content into more targeted viewing for users.

Accessing the content is simple via either a web interface or app access. One feature that is particularly pleasing to see is the ability to cast to a screen on your network, so Chromecast users you’re in luck!
