Optus have added three new mobile devices to its mobile pre paid service with the Huawei Y3II, the Alcatel Pop 5″ and the ZTE Blitz.
Looking at the line of new devices, one would have to say that they don’t look too bad really.
So lets have a look at them individually.
Huawei Y3II
The Huawei Y3II certainly looks good for the price and looking at the spec sheet, it’s not bad at all for $100. The full list of specs includes:
- 4.5″ FWVGA TN display (854 x 480)
- 1.0GHz Quad core Cortex-A53
- Mediatek MT6735M
- 1GB RAM
- 8GB memory – expandable to 32GB via MicroSD
- 5MP Rear Camera, 2MP front facing
- Bluetooth 4.0, WiFi: 802.11 b/g/n, GPS
- Android 5.1 (Lollipop)
- Network Connectivity:
- 3G: 900/2100 MHz
- 4G: 700/1800/2100/2300/2600 MHz

- Dimensions: 134.18 x 66.7 x 9.9 mm @ 130g
Its a little sad that the Y3II only comes with Android 5.1 (Lollipop) right out of the box and it most likely won’t see any further major updates past this.
Alcatel Pop 5″
The Alcatel Pop 5 was one of the devices that was announced earlier this year in February and it would seem that it has taken less than 6 months for the device to hit our shores. That said for the price, the Pop 5″ certainly does seem pretty damned good.

It certainly is a surprise that the Alcatel Pop 5″ comes with Android 6.0 (Marshmallow) right out of the box and for the price, certainly is a contender to some devices around at the same or close price point.
ZTE Blitz
The ZTE Blitz is named that here, but elsewhere around the world it is known at the ZTE Blade V7 Lite and to say the least, the price for a budget device that comes with a finger print scanner encased in a unibody metal design for under $150 is amazing.

Just like the Alcatel Pop 5 mentioned above also comes with Android 6.0 (Marshmallow) right out of the box and given the list of specs listed above, certainly is a big contender for even the budget conscious.
Pricing
Pricing wise, this is where things get kind of interesting, with the options to either pay full price or utilising AfterPay options, which enables you to get the device at an interest free payment period, generally over a 4 or 8 week period. AfterPay is only available to purchases made online.
For example, the following prices apply for the following devices including AfterPay options:
- Huawei Y3II – Available in store and online for $99 or pay 4 interest free payments of $24.75 every 14 days (2 weeks) over 8 weeks in total equalling the total price of $99
- Alcatel Pop 5″ – Available in store and online for $119 or pay 4 interest free payments of $29.75 every 14 days (2 weeks) over 8 weeks in total equalling the total price of $119.
- ZTE Blitz (Blade V7 Lite) – Available in store and online for $149 or pay 4 interest free payments of $37.25 every 14 days (2 weeks) over 8 weeks in total equalling the total price of $149.
An important note is that all the devices listed here are locked to the Optus network and unlocking fees apply should you wish to use these devices on another network such as Vodafone or Telstra.
