Google’s influence over Motorola is finally beginning to bear fruit, this time through the introduction of a bootloader unlocking service simply dubbed “Unlock My Device”. The unlocking process is very much the same way HTC have been doing it for a while. The website guides you through all the steps, along with the now-obvious “say goodbye to your warranty” warning.

Supported devices are few and far between with just the Motorola XOOM (Wi-Fi) being the only device launched in Australia. No doubt all future devices will be available for unlocking, but seeing as though Motorola are cutting back their releases, it may be a little while before another Australian device added to the list.

They are still required by law to cover the warranty, regardless of any software you have installed.
