Now that we have the launch availability from Vodafone, Optus, and Virgin, it’s time for Telstra to join the party, and this morning, they have.
Telstra customers can purchase GALAXY S4 on the $80 Every Day Connect Plan with a $7 handset repayment per month (after using an included MRO Bonus) with $800 worth of standard national calls and MMS plus unlimited text messaging to standard Australian numbers and 1.5GB of data for use in Australia. Min cost over 24 months is $2,088. (2 minute standard call $2.11, excess data usage $0.10/MB with no data pack.)

The phone will also be available outright in select Telstra stores from 27 April for $816, which is well less than the RRP of $899 we’ve seen last night.
On Saturday 27 April, you’ll be able to purchase the Galaxy S4 from selected Telstra outlets for the outright price or on a plan; for a full list of stores, check the Telstra Exchange post.
Telstra has one of the better networks (though it’s not without its irritating flaws) and so people looking for a premium smartphone may be looking for the (supposed) premium carrier to go with it. Will you be getting your Galaxy S4 through Telstra?
Not at that price. Why not make it available on the $60 plan? They are $20 per month more expensive than their competitors. HTC one on telstra is only $70 pm
The telcos weren’t kidding when they said the prices from a few years ago were unsustainable, this is way too expensive. I’m on a $59 plan paying $10 for my Galaxy Nexus with the same amount of data and everything. On 4G it’d just be a killer.

That’s pretty much the same for all GS4s, it’s not just Telstra. Blame Samsung 😉
I’m an existing Vodafone customer and am out of contract… was waiting for the S4. Called up this morning to upgrade / resign with the S4 and was able to negotiate a cheaper handset price… mind you I was on the phone for over an hour, but that was mostly due to the staff I spoke to not knowing anything about the launch and presale as of 9:00am this morning. I’ve just read (from the Telstra Exchange Blog) that they will in fact have the S4 available on a $60 plan with a $13 MRO. Which is worth considering. $13 x 24 months is $312.. and if you’re like me, who uses most of what is provided on a $60 plan. It’s a worthwhile option. Telstra should have just stated the $60 base plan from the start though, geesh. They just can’t get the PR right.

No way, buy the nexus, 400 for phone and if you are happy with Droptus something like an exetel plan on $15 a month for 1.5g of data and 500 odd in calls etc you are so far ahead.
Exactly. I’m paying $15 a month for pretty much the same thing from TPG. Which means I have $1080 to spend on a phone over 24 months, based on a $60 a month plan spend.
I’m with you on this one. I’m on the same plan with my GNex and I will probably buy my next phone outright so that I can stay on that plan. $80 is too much.
Yeah I’m thinking the same thing. Or I’ll move to an Optus reseller like Virgin or Vaya if their 4G coverage is decent enough. Don’t particularly want to fall back to Optus 3G in my area.
If I buy a 4G phone outright and ask Telstra for a 4G SIM while remaining on my plan, will they just hand me one and let me activate my number onto that or will they make my pay something?
If you have a fairly new sim card it should pick up 4g if in a 4g capable device.
You would need a new micro sim to work in the new Samsung though.
Sooo expensive, I am a customer with Galaxy Nexus on $59 plan, and I have no intention to pay any more than that for a plan
