Project Glass
Earlier this month, an Analayst from Taiwan was quoted as saying that Glass was looking at a starting pricepoint of $299. Just yesterday a rumour spread that Glass would be available for sale next year in Best Buy in the US, but according to Senior Manager of Corporate Communications and Public Affairs at Google Chris Dale, neither is true.

There isn’t much more to say at this point. But that is fairly open, I mean it could be less than $299….right? 😉

Glass is still only available to Glass Explorers, although it was recently expanded slightly to include a GMail style, invite a friend arrangement. The other caveat is that the friend still had to live in the US and pony up $1500.

We’re still a long way off from Glass becoming a mainstream release. Perhaps we’ll see a more wide-spread release after IO in May/June next year?

When do you think Glass will be released to the Public? How much will it be?

The right price for something similar to the developer version would be $199. The battery life, the capability, the lack of purpose means that if they want to justify something more, they are going to have to raise the spec significantly. Its just not all that in the flesh.

My guess: Glass will arrive with variable retail prices, reflecting to options (likely made available via Google’s trusted partner, Warby Parker) for frames and lenses. And even so, I’d expect the first run to be advertised with ‘introductory pricing’, possibly in the range from about $399 to $449.

I think Google Glass is more of a nexus device and OEM’s will be the ones who grab this wearable tech revolution and will fill the market with their own devices.
