There are plenty of imported Google Chromecast dongles already in Australia, but Google is yet to officially sell them outside of the US. That may be about to change, as the Chromecast App has just landed in the Australian Google Play store.
This could very well point to an imminent release for the device in Australia.
Google’s description from the store:
Chromecast is the easiest way to enjoy online video and anything from the web on your TV. Plug it into any HDTV and control it with your existing smartphone, tablet, or laptop. No remotes required. Cast your favorites from Google Play, YouTube, Netflix, and Chrome to your TV with the press of a button.

Use the Chromecast app to:
• Set up your Chromecast to work with your Wi-Fi network
• Manage your Chromecast settings (such as changing your device name, Wi-Fi password, etc.)
The Chromecast costs US $35 in the American Google Play store, it would be nice to see it sell for a similar price when it launches in Australia, though we have no word on when that will be.
To install the App for those lucky enough to have a Chromecast in Australia already, head over to the Google Play store and install it.

Pretty cool device, but limited content options at the moment. Used it for Google Movies and FTA catch-up TV service casting from browser tab. Be even better if/when Google makes Play TV available or Netflix launches locally.
Hope this will be available Along with nexus5 on 28th
Hopefully some additional/Australian content will launch soon if that’s the case but alas that’s a pipe dream. Have had mine a week, YouTube is nice but doesn’t really do any more or less than what the PS3 was already doing. Play Music is pretty awesome (Chromecast is plugged in to 5.1 amp), am just in the process of adding more beats to the cloud. I got Hulu “Tab” casting with media hint extension and local mp4 playback is reasonable. Am getting Rick Rolled a bit by my other half due to lack of secure or delegated devices
Got my cast yesterday so this is great. Now for the full apk and bet myself a vpn router
Nice… makes life easier. Now.. release the damn SDK so the true potential of this little wonder can be realised!
Yay! Had to install it from an APK from XDA yesterday, will make getting updates easier.
