Xperia Lollipop
After announcing the Android 5.0 (Lollipop) update was rolling out to their Xperia Z3 and Xperia Z3 Compact phones, it appears that Sony has expanded the availability to their recent tablets, as well as their previous flagship phone.

Xperia Blog is reporting that the Xperia Z2 and Xperia Z2 tablet (16GB Wi-Fi and LTE versions), as well as the Xperia Z3 Tablet Compact (Wi-Fi and LTE) are now receiving the Android 5.0 update (5.0.2 to be exact). As with the Xperia Z3/Z3 Compact, the update for the Xperia Z2 is apparently live in Nordics and Baltic regions, with the update for the Xperia Z3 Tablet Compact and Xperia Z2 Tablet only showing up in the Nordic region so far.

At this stage only Telstra has scheduled the Android 5.0 push for the Xperia Z2, with Vodafone listing the update as still waiting to be recieved, while Optus still has no indication that Android 5.0 for the Z2 is even in testing. The Xperia Z2 Tablet and Xperia Z3 Tablet Compact only hit Australia as outright purchases so their updates won’t see carrier testing.

The build for any of these tablets or the phone haven’t shown up in Australia as yet, but there are definitely ways to install the update if you’re really keen to grab it.

If you’ve installed the firmware for any of the Sony devices with an official build available, let us know what you think.

Just thought I’d come here and let people know. I’m with JeeNee mobile now (Optus Network) and I received Lollipop OTA this morning for my Xperia Z2.

Thanks! What recovery are you using? The dual recovery or something else?

j0nnos

Just checked my Z3 tablet and no updates at the moment 🙁

Same here… I’m sure it’ll pop up when we least expect it… and when we have less than 30% battery life left and we need to charge it before we can install lol effectively making us wait just that little bit longer!

I flashed the Boltic firmware on Tuesday night. It’s nice, although it left me wondering why the long delay…the changes are visual rather than functional. HTC, LG and Samsung all managed to get their updates out by January.

Luke Roberts

Agree… And any functional changes are all just carried directly from their 4.4.4 – eg app drawer … Me thinks they were waiting for the inevitable bugs to get out of the way – hence the 5.0.2 release…

Pumpino

And yet 5.1 is the version that has fixed the majority of the bugs. Let’s see how long it takes Sony to roll out this minor update!

What about Xperia Z1?

Pablopicasso

Yes I’m the same. Surely it can be updated at the same time.

lu99ke

Believe they have said within 2 weeks.

Flashed the combined Nordic FW for my Z3…. SWEEET …. And no more annoying Telstra boot animation 🙂

Flashed a pre-rooted version yesterday on my Z2, much more stable than CM12. Very happy that they kept the AOSP style notifcation shade. Glad they held off releasing until it was perfect.

Iain Simmons

Awesome! Got a link to that one?

Just got to remember to flash a recovery after the rom zip

I don’t have my tablet on me, but when I get home I’ll have a look see.
