Video streaming service Stan is following in the footsteps of competitor Netflix by testing price increases for a short period of time to see if this impacts on the percentage of people signing up to the streaming video service after their trial period ends.

The AFR reports that Stan:

“Temporarily increased prices last Thursday night when it created a basic tier at $10 a month, a standard plan between $12 and $13 and the premium plan at $15”

The usual subscription fee for Stan is a flat $10/month.

This follows on from Netflix testing increased pricing earlier this mont, trialling a tiered pricing increase of $9.99, $13.99 and $17.99 for short periods of time. The usual pricing is $8.99, $11.99 and $14.99.

Both companies may be planning to sneak in price increases on July 1 to coincide with the so called “Netflix Tax”, which will require international sellers of service and digital products to Australians to charge GST and remit it to our Federal Government.

Darren

I would be really, really upset if I happened to sign up to Netflix and then find out they were charging me more than everyone else in the country.
