HMD Global is set to improve the cameras included in their Nokia branded phones with a new partnership with optics company Zeiss.

Nokia has had a long history of using Zeiss optics, some of the best glass in the world, and with this agreement we’ll be seeing more. Both HMD and Zeiss say they want to ‘advance the quality of the total imaging experience on smartphones spanning the entire ecosystem from software, services, through to screen quality, and optic design’.

CEO of HMD Global, a long-time Nokia employee in their smartphone division before moving toHMD Global said of the agreement

Collaborating with ZEISS is an important part of our commitment to always deliver the very best experience for our customers. Our fans want more than a great smartphone camera, they want a complete imaging experience that doesn’t just set the standard but redefines it. Our fans expect it and, together with ZEISS, we’re delivering it – co-developed imaging excellence for all.

When we will see Zeiss optics in Nokia phones hasn’t been announced, but with rumours of a premium Nokia 8 and Nokia 9 the fruits of this public announcement may be ripening around the time of their launch.

We’ll be seeing the non-Zeiss Nokia phones the Nokia 3, Nokia 5 and Nokia 6 launching here in Australia in July, and we’ll see how non-Zeiss Nokia phones cameras go soon enough.
