After announcing Google Assistant integration for the Nest Cam IQ in the US earlier this year, Nest has today announced that Australians can now enjoy the benefits. As part of the announcement, Nest is also adding a cheaper 5-day subscription plan for Australian users.

The free software update, which is a part of the Nest app update, is available now will allow owners of the Indoor version of the Nest Cam IQ, but not the Outdoor model. The update will allow owners to use the built-in 3-microphone array and high-quality speaker in the Nest Cam IQ Indoor to turn the camera into a Google Home. Once updated, users will be able to simply say ‘Hey Google’ and a query to activate Google Assistant.

The update also includes more intelligent Nest Aware alerts, with two new features now available. Nest says that People Alerts can now tell the difference between a person and a something in your Activity Zones, and Nest Cam IQ (both Indoor and Outdoor) can now merge duplicate faces of the same person in your photo collection.

The Nest Aware subscription plan is now getting a new, cheaper 5-day option which lets you save 5 days of video to the cloud for $7 per month (including GST). This plan is in addition to the existing 10-day/$14 incl GST and 30-day/$30 (incl GST) plans.

The Nest Cam IQ Indoor is available from JB Hifi or iSelect for $479, or you can save a bunch by grabbing a grey import from Kogan for just $319.
