We have seen rumours and leaks in the past few months suggesting that a new Nvidia Shield TV might be in the making with some suggesting it might even be a new Shield TV dongle. Today’s appearance of the device on the Bluetooth SIG adds some weight to an upcoming release of the new hardware.
The details revealed on Bluetooth SIG website show that the device that just passed through has the same model number as that which we saw make an appearance at the FCC a few months ago — P3430. The description given of the device on the website is an NVIDIA SHIELD Android TV Game Console — to us this does not sound like it being a dongle, since when is a dongle a console?
The new Nvidia Shield will support Bluetooth 5 as you would expect at this stage but there is no mention of Wi-Fi 6 anywhere in any of the leaked sites or documentation. This does not mean it does not have the hardware for it, just that it is not supported by the device just yet — it can in fact be enabled with a software patch at a later date should the hardware be present to support it.
There are no clues when this new Shield TV device, be it dongle or console, will be released but we expect it to arrive in the next couple of months in time for Christmas shopping times around the world. Keep an eye out for it here on Ausdroid in the coming weeks and months.
