Ring Video Doorbell 2 launches with 1080p support and swappable batteries

If you’re into gadgets that are useful like me, the Ring Video Doorbell ranks fairly highly. Ring has launched an updated version overnight adding a better sensor and the option to swap batteries. It’s launched in the US, and it’s coming here…just not yet.

The Ring Video Doorbell already support HD quality video, but in the V2.0 model you get FullHD 1080P support. The Ring Video Doorbell 2 still supports wide-angle video capture though it’s only 160° as opposed to 180° on the original.You do retain the option to capture night shots with Infrared built-in and the built-in microphone and speaker lets you speak to whoever is at the front door from anywhere in the world.

The Ring Video Doorbell 2 can be hardwired or use batteries, with a new option that lets you swap batteries. You can purchase additional battery packs for your unit if it’s not hardwired and simply swap batteries as they’re used up. It’s a quick release allowing you to charge your Doorbell without removing the device.

Unlike the version one which comes in four colour options, the Ring Video Doorbell version 2 only comes in Silver or Black.

The Ring Video Doorbell 2 is available in the US only at the moment for $199.99USD. Additional battery packs cost $29USD normally, but Ring have discounted them to $20USD for launch. Ring has said that though not available in Australia just yet, they will be bringing them to Australia later this year.
