It’s not our normal coverage at Ausdroid to pick up on PC peripherals but this caught my attention and figured there would be some readers who would appreciate it too. Razer is a name synonymous with gaming and has a reputation for delivering great hardware.
I’ve personally invested thousands of dollars over the years in keyboards, mice, mouse mats, microphones and more all with the Razer name because I knew it would be quality hardware. There are some new goodies out that have piqued my interest because I’m due for some new gear, the Razer Ornata 2 Keyboard and the Gigantus V2.
The Ornata V2 brings a simple one-touch interface for media controls to your fingertips including play, pause, track skip and volume control. The buttons (like other Razer Chroma compatible devices) can be programmed through Razer Synapse 3 which adds a whole new world to gaming, lighting and macros.
It comes with gorgeous “leatherette” wrist rest for a longer session (gaming or general computing use) in front of the screen. The keyboard also brings softer feel to the keyboard touch with a new option in switches, bringing a combination of a soft typist touch and the firm responsive feel that gamers love.
Hybrid Mecha-Membrane switches which combine the best of both worlds, providing a soft, comfortable typing feel with the positive clicky feedback of a mechanical switch.
You can already buy online at the Razer Store for $189.90 and it’s likely to land at a few selected retailers soon.
One area of computing often overlooked is having a quality mouse mat. There are a few reasons for this:
- The material is better wearing and won’t produce pilling
- The material is specifically woven for accuracy of your mouse movement
- A quality mouse mat also provides a smooth and comfortable surface for your mouse to slide across with ease
The Gigantus V2 comes with a high thread count and the ability to personalise the mat (for an additional US$10 per mat) with your own choices of text, colour and backgrounds. The improved thread count vs V1 Gigantus mouse mats will result in a smoother flow across the mat in gaming, higher levels of accuracy (more points for the mouse laser to measure against) and available in a variety of sizes.

I’m waiting for the OpenRazer project to develop drivers for the more recent Razer hardware before I update anything on my Linux system.
It’d be even better if there was a Windows port of the OpenRazer drivers, as I disagree comprehensively with Razer’s policy of their hardware drivers needing to be online in order to be allowed to make full use of their PC hardware in Windows.
