After launching the 10″ Tab 4 last month, Lenovo has finally released the 8″ version of their latest tablet at Harvey Norman (who now sell the 10″ version too), The Good Guys and of course their own Australian website.
The tablet is selling at an RRRP of $249 though you’ll save a $1 at Harvey Norman and offer a multimedia friendly tablet with a nice Hight Definition IPS LCD display, Dolby Atmos compatible sound and a decently large, up to 10 hour battery life. The compact 8″ size is heavily favoured for anyone wanting a nice light (it’s a mere 310 grams), thin (just 8.3 mm) tablet that will let you watch videos or surf the web comfortably.
Powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 425 processor and 2GB of RAM the tablet includes 16GB of storage with a microSD card slot that will take cards up to 128GB – good news for a long flight or to give to the kids for a long car trip. Full specs include:

Disappointingly, there’s now word on the ‘Plus’ versions of the Tab 4 series tablets that Lenovo announced at Mobile World Congress earlier this year. Lenovo expected to launch both the standard and Plus Tab 4 series in June, but we’re still waiting on the Plus series to appear – you can bet we’ll be checking in with Lenovo to find out whether their plans have changed.
I’ve been looking for a 7 or 8 inch tablet, min. 3GB ram, and front stereo speakers, why is it so hard? I’ve so far come up with the Huawei Mediapad 3, but the battery life on the Huawei Nexus 6P was so awful, I’d be a fool to buy another… anyone, any suggestions?
Beware the Huawei Mediapad 3, I bought the Mediapad 2 8″ 4G which is a nice looking, fairly good tablet. However for some reason it’s ability to make phone calls is gimped in AU which isn’t a necessity but just annoying when a feature is inexplicably turned off permanently. But the most annoying thing is – never, ever been updated in 16 months I’ve had it. Huawei AU cares zero about even offering security updates for products sold in Australia. Would still be on Android 5 if not for finding and manually updating an official overseas Android 6 rom.
Should have also asked, if anyone has played with the multi-user features yet. Curious to know how Lenovo, who is marketting it, has implemented it. Is it just default Android Tablet behaviour, or are they doing something different? Does it enable the admin (main user?) set app permissions for other users (like tablet) or need another Google Play account (like phone)?
Lenovo got rid of their UI long ago, it’s stock Android and behaves as such. If they send out review units we’ll double check.

Daniel, I can answer my own question, having just picked up the Tab 4. Unfortunately, Lenovo has hobbled the device’s multi-user capabilities. It has removed “Restricted” user profiles, and replaced it with the mind-numbingly dumbed down Kidoz (which anyone can download as an app). Even then, it has left some glaring security holes open, like allowing Kid users to set Device Administrator privileges! I bought this as a media and basic games device for my kids – the above implementation means I can’t restrict Netflix to just the kids profile, let alone stop the kids unsubscribing accidentally. Any comment from Lenovo on why they are gouging Australia – 249 AUD compared to 129 USD (163 AUD, so with GST 180 AUD – 38% increase for us)?
