Tablets are in a very interesting space right now, many users just don’t want or need them anymore. There are just as many users — like myself — who are critically reliant upon them for daily workstreams. So the continued evolution of the Samsung Galaxy Tab S range of tablets is a welcome one for many. The latest addition to this range is the Galaxy Tab S6 lite. We’ve been hearing about the device for some time, saw the overseas launch reveal the specs and even pricing that wasn’t far from the final mark. Just yesterday, we saw that the S6 lite made a surprise appearance on retailers websites, leading us to believe the launch was potentially very close.

The 10.4″ 2000 x 1200 screen brings Android 10 with One UI2 to the user’s hands. A front 5MP (f2.0) and rear 8MP (f1.9) cameras make it capable (but not brilliant) for grabbing a quick snap or connecting via video conferencing and the 4GB of RAM gives it enough memory to complete most tasks without too much hassle. The 7.040mAh battery will give you a ton of screen on time, making this not just an entertainment, but a productivity tool for those who want to use it that way. The package is rounded out by the full suite of connectivity that you would expect in the current generation of devices: Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac, BT 5.0 and USB C for charging/data.

Samsung has confirmed the pricing in a press release this morning for the four variants of the device.

  • Tab S6 Lite Wi-Fi 64GB – $549.00.00
  • Tab S6 Lite Wi-Fi 128GB – $649.00
  • Tab S6 Lite 4G 64GB – $699.00
  • Tab S6 Lite 4G 128GB – $799.00

Garry McGregor, Vice President Mobile & IT for Samsung Australia said

We’re thrilled that the Tab S6 Lite is the first Samsung tablet to feature the S Pen at this price range. The
S Pen has been redesigned to be more comfortable in your hand and has many of the great features found in the Tab S6 S Pen. The new Tab S6 Lite also meets the new entertainment demands and thanks to our on-going partnerships with Spotify, Google and Netflix, streaming content, connecting with loved ones, shopping online or connecting with friends easier and more enjoyable.

Over the last couple of years, Samsung has shown a continued commitment to releasing tablets on a predictable cycle. The Tab S6 Lite is the next step and on paper at least, it’s a really nice step and they’ve continued to evolve their devices to meet the changing market needs.

The Samsung Galaxy Tab S6 Lite will be available through the usual retail channels including JB Hi-Fi, Harvey Norman, The Good Guys, Bing Lee and Officeworks starting today.

Will you be doing a review in the future? I have been wanting to get a good tablet for watching uni lectures and taking notes and would love to hear Ausdroid’s opinion on the s6 lite

The prices for the 4G versions is great. The WiFi versions prices though, unless they are S Pen models, are lousy and massively overpriced.

TFT screen according to GSMarena, wtf lol.

They look great Phil. I’m just a bit disappointed there isn’t a 8.4-inch version as not everyone wants a 10-inch tablet. But I guess as phones are so big now not many people want 8-inch tablets anymore?

Jack Bauer

I agree, but I think tablets should come in 2 sizes.

8.6″ and 10.4″ (give or take for both)

I am another 8″ user. Not convinced as yet that an XL phone is a replacement for an 8″ tablet.
