The anxious wait for the much-anticipated Jelly Bean update for the Samsung Galaxy S III is almost over. The fine folk over at SamMobile have reported that Samsung has begun its rollout of the Jelly Bean update for the Galaxy S III with the first OTA (Over The Air) update released for Polish handsets.
The firmware is PDA I9300XXDLIB CSC I9300OXFDLI1 MODEM I9300XXDLIB, and users in Poland are able to obtain the update by using Kies or running the OTA update process.
While it doesn’t mean much for us in Australia — yet — it means that we’re just that one step closer to an official OTA for Australian handsets. The last we’d heard was an October date, but as yet, Vodafone and Telstra are yet to receive the update for testing.
The Jelly Bean update will bring features such as:
- Project Butter – smooth, smooth Android goodness
- A better organised settings menu
- Different home-screen modes
- New notifications bar
- Google Now (Yippee!)
No doubt the wizards over at XDA Developers will have an ‘official’ update worked into various forms of downloadable ROM for those of you that just can’t wait.
