Android Marshmallow
Marshmallow has landed for the Nexus 5, Nexus 6, Nexus 7 (2013), Nexus 9 and Nexus Player in the form of Factory Images on the Google Developers page. Flashing the update can be a bit of a pain and generally you’re better off with an Over-The-Air (OTA) update. Google advised this morning that OTA’s would be starting today and the first one appears to have been captured.

The lucky recipient is the Nexus 7 (2013) LTE version of all things – a tablet that’s had a hard time of it in recent times when it comes to updates, closely followed by the Nexus 9 LTE. We’ll be grabbing the OTA URL’s as they appear and updating them below:

  • Nexus 5: LMY48M to MRA58K
  • Nexus 6:
  • Nexus 7 (2013)
  • Nexus 9:
    • Wi-Fi:
    • LTE:
      • LMY48M to LMY48T
      • LMY48T to MRA58K
  • Nexus Player: LMY48N to MRA58K

For instructions on loading an OTA update into your Android device, check out our How-To guide. As usual if you get a prompt to update your Nexus and the URL isn’t listed above, follow our How-To guide on capturing the link to an OTA and share it with us and the rest of the Android community.

Pretty crap that I spend nearly 1k on a N6 and I still have no update… This is the reason I left the Samsung family. Maybe a windows phone next.
On a side note, if I flash it will I still get regular OTA updates?

rfrost

What carrier are you with, Telstra are BLOCKING OTA Nexus updates even if you didnt buy a N6 via Telstra – they just released the OTA for the Nexus 5.

Chris

Im with Telstra, I tried finding some info to see if they’re blocking it. I didn’t think they were since the N5 got it. I might give it a few more days then stop being lazy and do it myself

rfrost

I just got my OTA update for the Nexus 6 delivered over the Telstra Network – so I dont think they are blocking it now.

chris

If you are interested the N6 OTA is now out but I can’t post the link here

chris

What is odd is that after a week of all other Nexus devices receiving OTA’s including the player, the Nexus 6 still does not and not one website that I can find is talking about the lack of an OTA for the N6. Odd..

Sim

My N6 updated this morning… To another version of Lollipop! So disappointing. Maybe some truth to the patch upgrade rumor.

jdt1986

Still sad about the Nexus 4 not getting it… 🙁

Frankenchrist

My N7 (2013) just updated to LM48T last night, so now I can’t sideload the OTA image. Anyone else have this problem?

chris

N6 requires a patch version before the Marshmallow version, the patch OTA is out but not the Marshmallow OTA. well that’s what I read anyway

frente69

I just side loaded the OTA update onto my Nexus 5. Everything is working fine.

Murray

I’ve flashed my Nexus 5 – working beautifully.

Bugger. Didn’t like the upgrade. On boot now I get a whole bunch of apps FC and it is basically unusable. Dammit. So now I’m going the wipe and reload route.

Dicky See

I was tempted too, N6 here but am waiting patiently for OTA….

Wipe cache and dalvik cache and that will fix it.

Wayno

Tried that and it still wasn’t happy. I wasn’t overly upset about wiping it anyway. Google restore almost all the config without me needing to do anything. Just needed to restore my SMS database and log in to my accounts one time.

Wayno

Still no OTA for the N6? Oh well, here we go flashing the factory image and hoping not to lose data! I’ll let you know how it goes.

Waffles

Can’t find the LMY48M to LMY48T update for the Nexus 9 WiFi anywhere 🙁

Wayno

Flashed my N7 from the factory image. It took a reeeeaaally long time for first boot but now (after tapping against the N6) it is re-downloading my apps and config. I’ll do the N6 tonight as I don’t want to wipe it. Happy days.

Peter O

Same as above. I haven’t bothered with the batch file for a while now, as it errors out, because of the file size of system.img I believe.

I prefer starting from scratch on a fresh clean install anyway.

Dan Rayner

Couldn’t wait and flashed my Nexus 5 manually from the factory image. The batch file, as normal, didn’t work, but flashing the img files and a bit of waiting and I have Marshmallow.
