In what amounts to an incremental update, Google has expanded the maximum number of concurrent connections for a Google Hangouts video call from 15 to 25 people. The update is automatic so if you’re eligible you won’t have to do anything to get it. To minimise the impact on bandwidth for all participants only the 10 “most active” participants video will be displayed at the bottom of the screen.

The update is only for Google Apps customers at the moment so if you were hoping to increase the number of people you invite to your Hangouts, unfortunately, this won’t work unless you’re an apps user.

Do you use Hangouts for your SMS, Chat or video chat? Chime in below with what you think Google needs to do to get Hangouts to be successful.

I’d like to be able to read and reply to SMS on my tablet – not just Hangouts messages. And I’d like converged messages to be a little smarter. I still have some contacts where I have an SMS conversation and a Hangouts conversation and it won’t let me merge them.

I’d take those features.

Damn Google… most of us, if not all, App Users want Family plans for music.

Wow I didn’t realise this was an issue. That’s a bit crap.
