The HTC Vive has begun shipping to customers, with US customers beginning to receive the VR system now. Before the final launch, HTC added smartphone notification functionality and now the companion app has arrived in Google Play.

The app is compatible with multiple phones running Android 4.4, not limited to HTC devices as most HTC apps in Google Play generally are. To connect to your Vive headset, you pair your phone with the PC using bluetooth and configure the system using the Vive software on your PC.

The Vive Phone Companion app offers you the option to keep an eye on what’s happening in the real world while you’re experiencing the virtual, with calls, text messages and calendar notifications popping up in the Vive tab on your System Dashboard in the virtual world. From the dashboard, the Vive Companion app can let you respond to missed calls, read text messages, send quick replies ore return a call. The calendar notifications can also be expanded to show you details.

The app is now available on Google Play to install, if you purchased a HTC Vive, it’s time to set it up and make sure you don’t disappear down the virtual hole forever.
