Armchair athletes are gearing up for a big two weeks, with the 2016 Summer Olympics kicking off in Rio de Janiro on Saturday. A big weapon in any watchers arsenal is a connection to social media while watching and Twitter has all the feeds you could want.

The list of people on the Australian Olympic team that are using Twitter is pretty extensive with Twitter collating a list of the Australian Olympic teams such as Diving, Wrestling and Table Tennis Australia, as well as a list of the individual athletes including flag bearer and team captain Anna Meares, youngest athlete Ellie Carpenter (She’s only 16!) and shortest and tallest athletes on the team (Basketballer Andrew Bogut and Diver Melissa Wu. You can even follow Australian Olympic Team Chef de Mission, Kitty Chiller.

Of course, this being Twitter there’s a hashtag for the Olympics and you can tag all your tweets about the games with #Rio2016 to let people follow (or filter out) your Olympic tweets.

If video and new is more your style, you can follow the official Australian Olympic broadcaster, channel 7 on Twitter with their Olympic specific twitter feed @7Olympics.

To get in on the Twitter action, grab the Twitter app from Google Play and sign up for an account – or if you’re already on Twitter check out the lists and get ready to support the Australian team.
