The long awaited launch of Google’s messaging app Allo which they announced at their developer conference earlier this year may go ahead this week according to internet leaker Evan Blass.

The tweet from Evan announcing that Allo will launch this week came earlier this morning and simply reads:

Like Duo, Google’s new video calling app that launched a couple of weeks ago, Allo is also tied to your phone number. Allo is also a conduit to their Google Assistant that they announced at the same time, able to look up your agenda for the day, details of your flight and hotel, or photos from your previous trips, it will also understand natural language patterns so you can simply address queries about these things as questions such as ‘Is my flight delayed’? Allo also has smart reply features similar to those used in Inbox, so you can choose from replies that the assistant will learn as you chat.

There’s not much more to go on, but you can try to narrow your guesses for the launch down thanks to Google’s technical lead for Duo, WebRTC and co-lead for Allo, Justin Uberti who gave this hint about the launch date for Allo:

The hint has been guessed at as September 20th based on the date that famed Portugese explorer Magellan embarked on his trip around the world in 1519.

We’ll know soon enough, if you want to pre-register for Allo you can do so over on Google Play, where you should be notified once it’s available. Once Allo is announced, like Duo it may take several days for the app to become available but here’s hoping that announcement comes sooner rather than later.

Update:
Looks like Mr Blass has added a date to his leak, tweeting 9/21 – or the 21st of September. Could this be it? With his track record of leaks, we’re certainly hopeful we’ll see Allo then.

I only use SMS when I have no data connection in the CBD…which is like…never.
