The list of Google’s apps that don’t support the new Android 7.1 app shortcuts just got smaller again. Hangouts is the latest app to join the list with an update starting to roll out today.

If you’ve got a Pixel or a 3rd party launcher configured to use app shortcuts you can now long press on the hangouts icon to start either a Chat, Video call or Voice call. Of course, on Google’s Messenger the shortcuts allow you quick access to specific chats and on Allo it starts up the new chat interface. Hey Google, how about a little consistency here?

It’s good to see Google quickly moving to implement this new feature across their app offerings. I have actually found several of the implementations legitimately handy. The App has started its roll out now so you should get Hangouts 14 soon.
