The chat bubble style notification we see on Facebook Messenger may be coming to the Google Messages App. This follows Telstra and Google quietly enabling RCS messaging for some devices. Users on Optus and Vodafone will have to wait a while longer and we do not have any indication from carriers when this will occur.

Developers at XDA have a history of tearing apart apps to find what may be in the future hidden within the code of apps. Most recently they have found and enabled message bubbles within the Messages app from Google.

If you want to check it out, here’s what you need to do:

  • Enable developer mode on your device
  • Enable bubbles in the developer mode settings.
  • Enable bubbles (if available) on your Messages app notification settings
  • Messenger from Facebook is one of the biggest messaging platforms on the planet. Should Google follow their on-screen pathways, or take their own path?
