This month will (hopefully) bring some new Android devices to Aus, as well as some already available ones heading to new carriers. In this post I’ll attempt to cover all known and rumoured upcoming releases for the month and some price drops for already available devices. Hit “Read More” to get your monthly Android fix started.

Sony Ericsson X10 Mini Pro

The X10 Mini Pro has hit the shelves on Three for $29 a month, and is already available on Vodafone & Virgin Mobile. This month will also see it launch on Telstra, no doubt prices will be steep seeing as the mid/low range LG Optimus is $49 a month which is the same price as the flagship Desire.

The X10 is sure to be a hit with people who want a pocket-friendly device with a keyboard to send out those text messages and Facebook updates ASAP.

Garmin-Asus A50

In a step up from the A10, the Garmin-Asus A50 navigation-friendly device will hit Optus shelves this month. It was planned to be on the $49 ‘yes’ Social Cap, but that has since been replaced with the ‘Extreme Cap’ range which includes more cap credit and data usage.

As the Garmin-Asus range is all about location awareness and navigation, Optus are throwing in a free in-car cradle for the A50, so you can eliminate any need for a separate in-car GPS system.

Dell Streak

We previously reported that Dell was hoping for an August release of the Streak, and we’re certainly hoping for one as well. Dell said they were looking towards a release through a carrier, but were more than happy to go it alone. Either way we’ll certainly be reviewing one for you guys.

No price range was released, but if we go by the launch in the USA, it’ll be around $600-650 outright. Not too bad for a half-slate half-phone.

HTC Wildfire

We’ve been on Telstra’s tail since day 1, and we’ve followed them right up until the official announcement was made. So you can tell we’re pretty excited by the release of the HTC Wildfire.

Telstra have said they’re going to price it very aggressively just like they did with the HTC Desire which sells outright at $768. We’d like to see it out on a $29 a month plan and outright at no more than $500. Telstra aren’t really all that familiar with the word ‘competitive’, but they’re getting there none the less.

Samsung Galaxy S

By far the most popular Android device at the moment, the Galaxy S is apparently sticking with Optus for another month, but Optus still won’t confirm/deny this. VHA and Telstra both are dying to get the Galaxy S on their shelves as they know how popular it is.

Three have previously stated they would announce something at the middle of this month and Telstra said “Pricing and availability will be announced a little closer to the launch date.”

With upcoming releases still in limbo, Virgin has told lowered the Galaxy S to $0 upfront on the $49 ‘Smart Cap’ which includes a whopping 2GB of data and unlimited texts to national networks.

Sony Ericsson Xperia X10

Its price drop time for the Xperia X10! After a few months of being at the top tier of $79+ a month, you can expect that the price will start to dip this month after both Optus & Virgin Mobile lowered it $49 a month.

Telstra, Vodafone & Three all have it currently at $79, with Telstra still trying to squeeze $1080 from people for its outright purchase.

Well that’s everything we know that’s happening this month. Let’s hope more new pops up throughout the month. We’ll be sure to keep you in the know & thank you for visiting us 🙂

Virgin’s Galaxy S is back in stock online, and apparently shipments for the backlog of orders is happening. But I don’t see this new $0 on $49 cap yet – where’s that news come from?

Opti

$0 on $49 is not listed on their site yet, but the offer is active now. I signed up for it yesterday evening by calling their sales hotline. Call them up. $49 smartcap now includes $300 cap credit (bumped up from $270) and 2Gigs of Data.

Thanks Opti! Did the same. Been following Virgin’s tweets and they announced “Galaxy S update : We’re hoping for delievery to re-stock and dispatch by end of week for most orders.”

Virgins website is useless and always out of date. It took them nearly 3 weeks to get smartcap info online.

Good idea for a post. Please do this every month!
