With the potential sale of Fitbit to Google currently going through international regulators, we had been hearing rumours that Fitbit may be bringing Google Assistant to their platform. That is a rumour no more. With Fitbit releasing its 2020 product line up today, the wearables company has confirmed that Google Assistant will be integrated into some of their devices.

FitBit’s 3 new devices include Versa, Inspire and a new Fitbit Sense, with the Fitbit Versa 3 and Fitbit Sense both getting Google Assistant integration shortly after launch in ‘Winter 2020’. It appears as if Google Assistant will be a choice alongside the already available Amazon Alexa voice assistant option that Fitbit has already implemented.

It’s unclear at this stage what functionality will be coming to the Fitbit, however, we hope that it is less fragmented than the experience of Assistant on Wear OS. If users attempt to start a routine or any of the other Assistant functionality that doesn’t work on Wear OS it is not going to be good user experience.

FitBit has announced that both the Sense and Versa 3 will be coming to Australia ‘later this year’.
