Fitbit has just announced to it’s Beta tester group that the App available through the Google Play store is now supporting Sync support for selected Nexus and Motorola devices.

The v1.8.4 of the Fitbit App from Google Play will support Sync on the Nexus 4, Nexus 5, and Nexus 7 v2 as well as the Moto X – all US Variants – as well as the Verizon Motorola Droid RAZR handsets (RAZR M, RAZR HD, RAZR HD MAXX) providing they have received the November 2013 firmware update which resolves BLE support. They have also advised that the Verizon Droid Ultra series of devices – Ultra, Ultra Mini, Ultra Maxx – will be supported as soon as the Android 4.4 update rolls out.

Background Sync is turned Off by default so if you want to sync your Fitbit to your device you’ll need to enable it in the App – Settings Menu > Devices > Select Device > Background Sync.

There does remain some issues with syncing that were found during the public beta trials, specifically with Kit Kat devices which will be adddressed with an update that Fitbit is working on with Google and chipset manufacturers on to help fix those issues in an upcoming Kit Kat release. But, the issues with syncing on BLE is not only on the Phone side, with Fitbit advising a firmware update will be released shortly for trackers to address rapid battery drain when connected to Kit Kat handsets.

They have no ETA for releases but “likely in early 2014” has been given at this time. If you are already on the Beta App, you can remain on that or if you aren’t then head over to Google Play to grab the latest update which is now live.
