I’ve been on a quest to find some Android accessories – some “generic” items to use with any of my devices, and others which are specifically designed for my Nexus 7. This is a keyboard/case combo, that snaps onto the front of your Nexus 7 via 3 clips. It connects via Bluetooth, and can be charged via Mini-USB. To use, you slip your Nexus 7, in landscape mode, into the groove at the back of the keyboard. It sets it at a desirable angle for viewing and typing. As a case, it clips on to the front of your Nexus[Read More...]
No one can deny that the introduction of the ASUS Nexus 7 tablet lit a fire in the “budget device” sector, and in the “sub 10″ tablet” range. But it seems that we may see more competition coming in from Samsung this year. There are rumours that we may see a new 7-inch Android tablet in the first half of this year, and that the price point is aiming to be sub-$200 (assuming USD). There are no real details on the specs of the rumoured tablet, however. We’re all waiting for the announcements at Mobile World Congress for the 8-inch[Read More...]
It’s finally happening! The Samsung Galaxy S II (GT-I9100) is getting a taste of Jelly Bean, Android 4.1.2. Samsung is starting to push out the Jelly Bean update to its best selling Android device of 2011. With so many Galaxy S II users still loving their device, it’s no wonder Samsung are continuing to push out updates like this. Jelly Bean is the biggest update yet for the Galaxy S II, as the ICS update really didn’t add any UI changes from its Gingerbread start. However, Jelly Bean will bring the Nature UX Interface with it, which is the same[Read More...]
With some new mobile devices not offering a Micro SD storage expansion option (eg: Nexus gear), you are limited as to how much media you can carry on your device. This is where devices like the Kingston Wi-Drive can come into play. The Kingston Wi-Drive is a portable Wi-Fi hotspot storage device. It is about the same size as a small mobile phone (121.5mm x 61.8mm x 9.8mm), so has little impact on the “carrying an extra device” issue. For charging, and connectivity to your computer to copy media, it has a mini-USB port on the top. Down the side[Read More...]
When it comes to the world of sports simulation games, Electronic Arts is usually the first name to come to mind. With a rich history of titles across PC and console gaming, they’re also making quite a big splash on the mobile gaming scene too. Their latest offering Real Racing 3 looks to be right on track to further their reputation on mobile. While the original announcement for Real Racing 3 was way back in August 2012, EA has now released a developer diary video featuring Rob Murray from Firemonkeys Studio, an Australian company based in Melbourne to show what[Read More...]
Update: Another reader, acceler8er has informed us that his “unbranded” SGSIII has also received the JB update. One of our readers, Matthew Cranley has just made us aware that the SGSIII phones on the Virgin Network are starting to receive Jellybean, 4.1.2. This update has been long awaited for most SGSIII owners, and it will be interesting to see what improvements it will make to the premium handset. Edited to add: On the off chance, I checked my SGSIII that is on the Live Connected network. It also was ready to receive the Jelly Bean update.
Over the last couple of years, we’ve seen a few “bare bones” mobile service providers come up. Offering cost effective plans as “Sim Only” or “BYO Phone” deals, which are great if you purchase your handsets outright, or you have recently had a plan expire, and you’re happy with your handset. But what if you’re happy with being on plans so you can update your handset every two years? Easy monthly set amounts, and you get new gear. Yay! Live Connected has recently begun offering some of the latest handsets on plans, including, the Samsung Galaxy S III, HTC One[Read More...]
The rumours are over! Twitter has just updated their application for Android, with image filters! If you happen to be in or around Broadway in Sydney, and your looking to snag a good price in the Nexus 7 32GB model, you’re in luck. JB HiFi have just opened a new store at Broadway and are celebrating by having a giant sale. The main thing that caught my eye was the particularly good price on the Nexus 7. So go in and get yourself one while the price lasts. To my knowledge, this price is only at the Broadway store. **Edited** This appears to be the price store wide – even online.
If you’ve been seeing the tweets, links, and news stories about the 4.2.1 update for the Nexus 4 and 10 devices and then looking at your poor Nexus 7, and thinking… what about me? It isn’t fair! (must be sung in tune… or close to). Well, sing no more… really… stop. The update URL has been uncovered so you can manually update the device right now. All you need to do is grab THIS file, only 1.05MB in size. This will fix the “Decembergate” issue in the People app. Of course, it has started being pushed out OTA today, so[Read More...]
Last night at Moore Park, Samsung held a launch event featuring the Galaxy Note II. We were also treated to first looks of other products including a range of Windows 8 convertible laptops and tablets and the new Android based Samsung Galaxy camera. Samsung Galaxy Camera After an hour of pre-event drinks and chatter with like minded folk, we were ushered into a large staged area and asked to take a seat. Mr Todd Sampson, the CEO of Leo Burnett, came out on stage and started off our evening with the announcement of the Samsung Galaxy Camera. The Samsung Galaxy[Read More...]
