This week we got our best leak yet that the rumoured Huawei-built device for Google was going to be a new 7-inch Tablet. Today we’re getting our first look at some rumoured specs for that device, so grab your salt and jump on in to see how it stacks up.
The new Google tablet will apparently feature a 7″ 2560 x 1440 display, which comes in at 419 ppi, a Snapdragon 820 SOC paired with 4GB of RAM and 64 GB of internal storage and a 13MP rear-facing camera. For those worried the Pixel 7P was going to be a mid-ranged device, it looks like your worries are over, for those hoping for an affordable option you may not be so lucky.
With Google’s rumoured Hardware event now apparently taking place on October 4th we have less than a month until we might see the Pixel 7P officially.

I’m not buying the rumoured specs. As has already been started, 16:9 for a tablet is a bit silly. The more successful tablets from Samsung and Apple are 4:3, as was the Nexus 9. Even Google’s latest tablet, the Pixel C is close to 14:10. The other thing is, who wants a 7in tablet when most of us are carrying phones that are between 5 and 6 inches. The Pixel C/International Paper size is probably optimal going forward, particularly since if you divide it in half with multiple windows you still get the same aspect ratio. Something like 148 x 210 mm and the Pixel C’s 2560×1800 to match the A5 paper (10″ diagonal) and still have >300ppi. Just keep those bezels and price down – there’s no excuse.
Doing that at 8″ is possible, but I’d think that the A5 size would work if you didn’t have monster bezels and kept the weight/thickness down.
Yeah, I think I agree with you. I proposed a 5:4 tablet but I don’t think it’s wide enough particularly when lots of people will use it for video. 2560×1800 sounds like a good compromise.
I’m very excited about this. I miss my N7, it was so perfect for reading.
The N9 is just too big and heavy to use comfortably for long periods of time.
With such specs inwish it was bigger. More like 8″.
I hear you Joshua, 8″ is the perfect size for me. That said I do like the 9.7 for some things.
It’s not the size that counts. It’s how you use the tablet.
Seriously though, I love my 2012 Nexus 7. I welcome another 7″.
Now THAT sounds good to me. I’m tired of having to put up with underwhelming hardware to enjoy Google’s OS is its best clothes. A high end 7 inch Pixel tablet sounds epic.
Maybe I’ll be going for the smaller Pixel phone afterall!
This. This’ll be replacing my nexus 7 second Gen.
If it’s overpriced, it won’t sell. It would be daft of them to claim ‘flagship’ as an excuse when you’re trying to revive a dying market.
And hang on, 2560×1440 is 16:9. Nexus 7s have tended to be 16:10 in the past, because otherwise they are too narrow/short, and even then the Nexus 9 was 4:3 and the Pixel C 1.41:1 – so it would be a strange and backwards step to go 16:9.
They need to at least be matching the N7 2013, and what you are suggesting is less practical and more overpriced?
2560×1600 would be much better.
Like some of the comments on the previous post, I think 8″ would have been a better size.
