Apparently the relationship between Google and Nestlé is pretty tight, with the German arm of the Swiss based multinational food and beverage company advising a Facebook fan of their page that the release for Android 4.4 is expected in October. The response – ‘Hi Tim, Android 4.4 KIT KAT ist ab Oktober verfügbar.’ Translates to – ‘Hi Tim, Android 4.4 KIT KAT is available in October’. Of course, further down the page, they answer slightly differently to another user – ‘Android 4.4 KIT KAT wird im Oktober erwartet’. Which translates to ‘Android 4.4 KIT KAT is expected in October.’ And[Read More...]

Motorola will hold an Australian launch for the RAZR HD and RAZR M Android phones on Tuesday 2 October A little while ago we brought you the news about Motorola’s new RAZR line of handsets, including the RAZR HD and RAZR M which were announced for Australia. Well, today the news has hotted up a little, with confirmation that the devices will arrive in October, following a launch event to be held on 2 October in Sydney. While we knew that these two phones were coming through Telstra sometime in Q4, today’s announcement indicates that they aren’t just coming in[Read More...]
It’s finally October, which means there is a fair bit of stuff expected to happen, unless of course you’re waiting for your Android 2.1 or 2.2 update, because that’ll no doubt be pushed back, again! In all seriousness though, there are a couple of fairly big launches coming up, and with a bit of luck we’ll have even more announcements this month leading up to the holiday period in the next couple of months. Hit the break to get into this months Android goodness!
Today we can announce that the Dell Streak is headed to Optus from October 1st on a 3 month exclusive deal. The Streak, which is the first Android Tablet launched in Oz, will be available for $649 outright or $0 upfront on Optus’s $59 Cap which includes 2GB of data, unlimited SMS & MMS and $500 worth of cap credit. The Streak hits the sweet spot between a full-blown Tablet and the typical Smartphone, with its 5″ display & video calling capabilities. “We’re very excited about the Dell Streak coming to Optus and providing such a unique device to our[Read More...]
Above is Samsung Spain informing the world that Samsung are expected to push out the Android 2.2 to Galaxy S devices in late October instead of the September date they had originally planned. We also have to keep in mind that our Carriers (less Virgin) each have their own applications that have to be pre-loaded before any update reaches your device, so don’t be surprised if the date is pushed back a little further for us Aussies.
Last night LG had a press launch event, and there they announced the upcoming release of the LG Optimus One which is the bigger (better) brother of the LG Optimus. It features a HVGA 3.2″ capacitive display, 600MHz CPU, Android 2.2 & a 3.2MP camera. Neerav Bhatt was on the scene to check it out, and said that the Optimus One benchmarked the same as the HTC Desire running 2.1, so this isn’t a slow device, and an even bigger plus, it isn’t a resistive screen like the LG Optimus. The Optimus One will be released on Optus during October[Read More...]
So this story has gone from a ‘might‘ to a ‘coming soon’ which is good news for peeps after a simple low-end smartphone on Telstra Prepaid. The Galaxy 5 i5503T is expected to hit Telstra on the 16th of October and retail for around $199, which isn’t always the case, just look at the Wildfire. The Galaxy 5 has a 2.8″ QVGA (why?!) capacitive display, 2MP camera, 600MHz CPU, 3G (850/2100MHz), WiFi, Bluetooth 2.1, FM Radio and 90MB of internal memory to install a few apps with. Not too bad given the price, but there will be a lot of[Read More...]
The very trustworthy folk over at Techanist have just reported that Optus are looking at getting the HTC Aria, which we think could possibly be renamed to the HTC Liberty (it’s codename) at the reported release time in October. The HTC Aria features very similar specs (GSM Arena) to the HTC Wildfire that will be released by Telstra on August 24th, and we’re expecting them to be direct opponents. If that is indeed the case, the HTC Aria should be well priced outright to match the $349 offered by Telstra for the Wildfire and also be available on Optus prepaid.[Read More...]
