Telstra SGS III Jelly Bean
Looks like Telstra Samsung Galaxy S III owners are being prompted to download the Android 4.1 ‘Jelly Bean’ update on their handsets Over The Air(OTA) right now. Reports are coming in of users being prompted to download and install the 295MB update.

Update :
More details have been made available over at the Crowd Support forum:

Just a quick one to let everyone know that the Galaxy S 3 Jelly Bean 4.1.1 update has commenced deployment early (as at 2:30PM EDT today). As with all Samsung updates the FOTA deployment is staggered. The “staggered” deployment means that the FOTA update will be progressively rolled out to customers over a two week period. The deployment schedule is:

Day 1-3 : 10k of devices selected at random to be eligible for update, users are either alerted via FOTA Push Message or by manually checking
Day 4-13: An additional 10% of devices are selected per day
Day 14: All devices are now eligible for update
The FOTA update should be downloaded via Wi-Fi as data usage charges will apply if downloaded via the mobile network.

The update will be available to all customers via Kies from 2:30PM EDT Wednesday 19 December.

4.1

The update will most likely be rolled out in stages over the course of a week as most updates are but to prompt your phone to check for a software update you can go to Settings > About Phone > Software Update > Check now for update. You can always try connecting your phone to Kies to check for the update.

Let us know in the comments if you have received the update and what you think of it, remember we love to hear about device updates, so if you see your device receive an update let us know via twitter or email.

Thanks: David Rose.

Jelly of your jellybeans! Come on telcos, throw out the SII jelly goodness. My boyfriend doesn’t want me to flash his phone but he needs to get it updated soon.

Trev

Just got the update…..FINALLY! big difference is the Samsung keyboard….but over all simply awesome.

David McMullen

Yahoo! Finally ^_^
Should be finished downloading in 15 minutes – not too shabby.

Dan

I’m downloading it now, albiet very slowly.

Dan

Fully installed and operational again. New keyboard looks nice. Seems quicker

Roll on the update for generic S3 users. Jelly Beans would make a nice Christmas present for me.

Sean Royce

What do you mean generic S3 users? As in i9300. I don’t think their are any modified models in Australia.

Paul Walker

I mean not from a carrier. I bought mine unlocked from Dick Smith. Apparently, such users have to wait for all the carriers to get their updates before Samsung ship us the new version of Android.

Sean Royce

Odd, you’d think you’d get it first, although, I have an S3 i9300 and it is unlocked and on a plan with Optus.

Paul Walker

Yeah, you would. Unfortunately, common sense doesn’t apply. I’ve certainly checked for an update and there isn’t one. Others have said here that Samsung have a deal with the carriers. Others have said its to make sure that its “proven” with all carriers first. Either way, for a customer who paid for an unlocked phone, its a poor outcome.

Aaron

Yeah I’m in the same boat Paul, it’s really poor form.

Sean Royce

I’m just sick of the fragmentation, if it were up to any of us, we’d all be on 4.2.1 I am content on 4.1.2 at the moment though.
